Opinion: Beggars

Early this morning, an old woman approached my mom and said “Maam, panghatag kwarta. (Maam, can you spare me some money?)” while handing her palm. At that moment I was in pity with her and wanting to give her some of money, if I had brought some with me. But then my mom wouldn't give her any so she started tapping her back and wouldst let her in the car. My mom was steadfast on her decision that she immediately climbed in to the car. The woman was I think angry at that point that she started saying words to my mom. At that time all my pity on her turned to rage. I was really mad and curious at the same time. I question myself, what’s wrong with some of these beggars who wouldn't take no for an answer? Sorry for the word but that is what they really are.

Beggars can be found anywhere, like seriously anywhere. On the streets and outside the buildings and facilities. Some pitiful and some head throbbing. Yes, I mean it. Some of them would not just take no for an answer.

Parents - - Most of the times mother carrying their children with them. They would knock on the windows of the car, tap your back and sometimes say words that may cause irrational fear. This is really annoying on so many levels, like what the hell you should get a job and earn enough money to feed yourself and your family. You wouldn't get any benefits or decent living for walking around the street with your kids and asking strangers for money. This should be a lesson for all of us that before we get into that family thingy we should educate ourselves first and get a job for a living so that we can give the needs of each member of the family.

Kids - - Okay now this one is sad. (1) Children who were born with this kind of life. Mothers carrying them everywhere and making them ask for money too. Living in the streets eating one meal per day and most of the times nothing. Having two or less pair of clothes and no toys. Digging trash to find things that might be useful to them. (2) Children who were abandoned by their parents. SOME KIND OF PARENTS HUH! They have to deal with being an orphan at the streets. Living with their selves and surviving for their selves. In need of the loving virtue of the parents who were supposed to take care of them, spoil them with their love. Living like there’s only him/her in the world. Just like the kid in (1) but this time with no parent.

Senior Citizens - - This too is annoying. How could they just expect people coming out of the shops or in the streets to give just enough for them to eat? If they were any younger, I bet many people would just ignore them. I think they had enough time to set things right but no! they continued asking for money. Continued depending on strangers who are kind enough to lend. Continued being pitiful and poor. I’m being mean? Well it’s not my fault.

You may have observed that I’m madder with the older ones than the children. Why? It’s because they are old enough to know that the right thing to do as a parent is think what is good for the family. And that is a happy life. Even if they did not go to school, paternal instinct should come to life. But wait there’s more; GOVERNMENT has something to do with these. They should take actions on what to with them, educate them because they really need one, give them decent jobs and get them out of the streets. Be a leader to them and prove to them that you’re doing your job and not just corrupting Filipinos’ money. DO YOUR JOB AS THE APPOINTED LEADERS OF OUR COUNTRY AND SHOW US WHAT YOU’RE WORTH AND YOU REALLY DESERVE TO YOU’RE YOUR POSITION IS RIGHT NOW. DON’T START SOLVING PROBLEMS AT THE TOP, START AT THE VERY BOTTOM, AND START WITH THOSE IN NEED OF YOUR HELP.
